NAME: Injections series
AUTHOR: Bradley Hart, a Canadian artist based in New York.
DESCRIPTION: They might look like pixels but each cluster is actually made of bubble wrap injected with paint. Bradley Hart choses pictures of his own collection to create these photorealistic images. His Injections series goes hand in hand with the Impressions series. It consists in the impression of the excess of paint resulting from his injections onto panel of woods. If the images made with bubble wrap look pixelated, the drippings of paint of the impressions make them look glitched. The same image gets two different translations, illustrating the ever-changing nature of our memory. Hart is currently exhibiting his works at the gallery nine5 in New York.
AMUSEMENT RATE: Chuck Close’s paintings comes to mind right away but Hart’s work is quite different from the famous painter. Bradley Hart is not a painter. His process is as complicated but it has more to do with recycling than with painting. His “injections” ironically point out the plastic nature of our society as well as refer to our current obsession with the digital world.
