AUTHOR: Dutch fashion designer Iris van Herpen, guest member of the Chambre syndicale de la Haute Couture, who is known for her interest in new technologies applied to fashion.
DESCRIPTION: After showing an amazing couture collection last January featuring the first flexible 3D-printed dress, Iris van Herpen is now unveiling her first ready-to-wear collection. Phy-tha-go-rash draws inspiration from the Pythagoras tree. The plane fractal deploys as a tree, transforming a geometrical shape into an organic form. Ready-to-wear is the occasion for Iris van Herpen to inject a more functional dimension into the avant-garde designs of her couture collection while pursuing her exploration of innovative techniques. For instance, flexible 3D-printed jackets exclusively available online will be custom made thanks to a 3D modeling tool that adapts the garment to the body of the wearer.
AMUSEMENT RATE: Couture might not be accessible to everyone so it is obviously a great news that the incredible designs made by Iris van Herpen will finally become available to a larger audience. The clothes gain simplicity but they retain the same creativity that makes her couture collections so fascinating. Oh and if it could get any better, Canadian singer Grimes is the muse of this collection.
