NAME: Project Google Birdhouse
AUTHOR: Taiwanese artist Shu-Chun Hsiao.
DESCRIPTION: The iconic Google Maps landmark becomes a birdhouse. What is supposed to be a digital marker ventures into our reality as a refuge for birds in various locations across Taipei.
AMUSEMENT RATE: Birds are the ultimate Google Maps users. Their point of view, looking down on earth from the sky, is exactly what we can see when we go on the cartography website. It is only natural that they receive their very own landmarks. Schu-Chun Hsiao plays with scale and perspective in the same way one can do when using Google Maps. The small houses are the birds’ go-to destination, exactly how online, the landmark represents the location of our research.
