AUTHOR: Shinichi Maruyama, a Japanese photographer based in New York.
DESCRIPTION: More than photographs, the images of this series are almost sculptures. They were created by combining 10,000 individual photographs of a dancer. Our perception of life is altered as what we see do not exist except through Maruyama’s lens.
AMUSEMENT RATE: This series is quite reminiscent of Loie Fuller‘s work at the end of the 19th century. There is the same notion of body in movement, except here no need for Fuller’s loose clothes, the naked body of the dancer suffices. The flesh-colored figures are both organic and abstract which adds to our confusion and makes them even more appealing.
