AUTHOR: Neulant van Exel, a design duo from Berlin made of Marian Neulant, a sculptor and Axel van Exel, an architect.
DESCRIPTION: The floppy disk is now an endangered technological species but it keeps inspiring some. This coffee table was modeled after the venerable storage disk that, so popular at the end of the 20th century. Neulant and van Exel were careful enough to reproduce every single details like the holes or the arrow. The metal shutter can slide, just like on the original disk, except it uncovers a secret compartment. The Floppytable is made of hot-rolled and stainless steel and measures 70cm x 65cm. It is build to order for only 720€.
AMUSEMENT RATE: Furnitures inspired by technology or games are often so geeky that they become slightly tacky. While the Floppytable retains some geeekiness, its sturdy lines and steel construction makes it a beautiful object to own. And, anyway, 20 years from now, nobody will even remember what a floppy disk was. Your children or very young girlfriend won’t even realize the table is an oversized disk, they will only see a great table with a unique early 21th century design.
