NAME: Omote 3D
AUTHOR: Party, a creative lab based in Tokyo and New York.
DESCRIPTION: After being scanned for 15 minutes, the 3D printer does its magic and print a figurine of yourself. There are three different sizes ranging from $258 to $516. Quite expensive, but still cheaper than getting a marble bust of yourself. The 3D-printing booth will be open from November 24th to January 14, 2013 at the Eye of Gyre exhibition space in Harajuku.
AMUSEMENT RATE: I hope 3D printing won’t replace family photos or this could lead to a pretty creepy home decor trend. Parents could have a collection of figurines for all the big steps of their kids’ development, from newborn to teenager. How lovely. Having a tiny model of yourself on a shelf of your living room is a bit weird but you will finally be able to literally play with yourself.
