NAME: Stratigraphic Manufactury

AUTHOR: Unfold, a design studio from Antwerp.

DESCRIPTION: Continuing their pioneering work in 3D-printed ceramics, Unfold was invited to take part to the Adhocratic exhibition during the Istanbul Design Week last month. On the occasion, the design studio created the Stratigraphic Manufactury, a local manufacturing shop which can produce 3D-printed ceramics. The installation also features pieces made all over the world, printed from Unfold’s digital files but displaying the local and personal influences of their manufacturers.

AMUSEMENT RATE: Some great tableware to go with last week’s silver! Unfold’s work is admirable. In 2010, they invented a clay printer based on the Reprap Open Source printer. Since then, they have never stopped creating new products and, above all, have shared their knowledge to develop this new exciting craft. Taking advantage of the possibilites offered by 3D printing, their beautiful porcelain pieces are decorated with complex geometrical patterns. The Stratigraphic cups are available on Moozeum. The set of 4 costs 212€, expensive but it is the price to pay to be ahead of your time.
