NAME: Dyskograpf

AUTHOR: Jesse Lucas, Erwan Raguenes and Yro from Avoka.

DESCRIPTION: This graphic disk reader enables the user to compose music using a simple felt tip pen. No diamond here but a camera which reads the marks and transforms them into a musical sequence. The Dyskograf will be displayed at the OFNI festival (November 14 & 15) at the Lieu Multiple in Poitiers and at the Visionsonic festival (Nov. 16 & 17) at Mains d’Oeuvres, near Paris.

AMUSEMENT RATE: The creators of the Dyskograf believe that the dematerialization of music led to an ignorance of the principles of music recording. The goal of this installation is to overcome this flaw by enabling the user to intuitively compose music. Experimentation is closely related to creativity and the Dyskograf intends to restore this important relationship. The first disk you make might not even be audible, but keep marking and you will end up creating a masterpiece.
