The documentary Indie Game: The Movie follows the uphill battles of four passionate independant game developers.
The two Canadian movie makers James Swirky and Lisanne Pajot accompanied these committed artists for over a year. Entirely financed by donations via the online funding platform Kickstarter and deeply encouraged by the indie game world, the documentary naturally found its place among the official selection of the 2012 Sundance film Festival, where it will be in competition this Friday.
While you wait for the release later this year, the trailer and other videos are available on the movie’s website. Discover, among others, the adventures of Phil Fish, the developer of the beautiful game Fez (soon available on XBLA), and the two wacky Team Meat developpers, Edmund McMillen and Tommy Refenes, and their game Super Meat Boy (already available). Motivated by the strong success of games like World of Goo and Minecraft, many developers have become involved in the ruthless undertaking of creating their own indie games. This little publicized side of the video game industry is finally uncovered, thanks to this documentary full of good intentions. HBO has also noticed the documentary’s potential in terms of story telling and funny characters, and plans to make a TV series based on the film. Geeks are definitly in fashion.

Fez - Polytron Corp

Super Meat Boy - Team Meat
